Peshawar Zalmi move up to the second spot in the points table, as they beat Lahore Qalandars by 17 runs at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday(February 24).
Chasing 167 for victory, Lahore got off to a blazing start, mainly due to the Delport who smashed 22 off the young Mohammad Asghar’s first over to take Lahore to 33 for no loss in 2 overs. But the innings fell apart thereafter, with Qalandars losing 5 wickets in a matter of just eight deliveries in a catastrophic collapse. Lahore could not really recover after having lost six of their premier batter with just 43 on the board, as Peshawar strolled to victory by 17 runs in the end.
Earlier, Peshawar had reached to 166 after opting to bat first mainly due to Kamran Akmal, who scored a chanceless 58 laced with 9 fours. Akmal was exquisite especially down the ground, as he took care of the off-color Lahore bowlers. But Yasir Shah(2-19) was an exception as he sucked the momentum out of the Zalmi innings to make sure they go no further than 166, despite having wickets in hand for most part of the game.
Peshawar now stands 2 points behind Quetta Gladiators, who have already made it to the playoffs courtesy a win over Karachi yesterday.
