A stunning late collapse from England has completely derailed England hopes of finishing the tour with a rare piece of silverware as they lost the INDvENG, 3rd T20 match in Bangalore by 75 runs.
Chasing 203 to win, England were in hunt for the most part of their innings. Morgan and Root kept England afloat and it looked all set for another nail-biting finish after the last T20 International at Nagpur.
However, it didn’t happen to be the script this time around as England succumbed to an incredible collapse, losing their last 8 wickets for just 8 runs to hand India series.
Yuzvendra Chahal claimed the exceptional figures of 6 for 25 in four overs – the best by an India bowler in T20 history, and third best overall – as England bundled out for just 127 to mark the end of a long and tough tour.
After Suresh Raina (63) and MS Dhoni (56) powered India to 203, it needed a special effort from England to ensure that Eoin Morgan’s men go home with a T20 trophy, after having lost the Test (4-0) and ODI (2-1) series before.
England had spiritedly reached to 119 before they lost Eoin Morgan when he mistimed a sweep shot off Chahal. The next delivery, Joe Root failed to pick a googly and was given out LBW. Butler was sent back by Bumrah in the next over as he attempted a pull shot on a delivery that hurried onto him, offering a simple catch Virat Kohli to end his run.
Moeen Ali skied Chahal to long on as he returned to inflict more damage to England in his next over while Ben Stokes was removed courtesy a well-judged catch on the boundary line by Suresh Raina.
Jordan, Plunkett, and Mills all followed the way as England’s chase came to a dead end in no time; England lost their last 8 wickets from just 19 deliveries to lose the series and go home empty handed.
“Coming back here after a while. It has been a long time since we played the IPL final. I thought this was an occasion which demanded the game to be at our best. Everyone were looking forward to this game.” Kohli said.
“Even after losing all three tosses, we won the series, just like the Test series. We have shown character and that’s the reason we won all the three series.” Virat Kohli commented.
“Going forward we know exactly what we need to do in different formats and that is the biggest positive.”
