Islamabad United have somehow managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at the Dubai Stadium on Saturday (February 25), as they beat QuettaGladiators by just 1 run to secure their position in the next round of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Quetta, who were in firm control for the most of their chase, found an absurd way to lose as they failed to score the remaining deficit of 7 from the final 2 overs with 7 wickets intact to hand Islamabad two points and also playoff’s spot.
Chasing 166 for victory, Shehzad and Pietersen combined for a colossal 133-run stand, which was second-highest in the brief history of the PSL. But even that was not sufficient to see Quetta home as they fell short by just 1 run.
Rumman Raees and Mohammad Sami came incredibly good in their final overs, hitting all the right lengths and going for the yorker when required with consistent accuracy.
Earlier, Islamabad had scored 165, mainly due to the contribution from the emerging left-hander Hussain Talat, who scored a 39-ball 54. Shane Watson(29) also played vital role, as he hammered Anwar Ali to all parts in his final over to propel Islamabad to 164.
