Karachi Kings seal their second win of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Sharjah on Monday (20th February), as they beat Peshawar Zalmi by 9 runs.
Kings withstood a late attack from the veteran all-rounders Darren Sammy and Shahid Afridi – the pair added 70 from just 39 balls – to moves themselves one step ahead in the points table at 4th, just behind Peshawar Zalmi who are currently situated at number three.
Chasing 175 for victory, Zalmi started off their ultimately doomed chase by losing three wickets in the powerplay. Kamran Akmal(14), Tamim Iqbal(16) and Iftikhar Ahmed(1) failed to provide any momentum to the run chase.
Morgan(3), Maqsood(5) and Shakib(1) also found it tough to get going as they left Kings reeling at 69-6 at one stage. And it seemed that Zalmi would go down without a fight but Shahid Afridi had other plans as he forged a union with Darren Sammy to give opponents a scare.
Requiring another 16 runs for a win, Usama Mir finally dismissed Afridi after conceding 8 runs from his first 3 balls to dash Peshawar’s chances.
Earlier, Karachi’s batting line-up clicked after having been asked to bat first. Babar Azam(45) and Kumar Sangakkara(28) laid the foundation as they scored 72 for the first wicket stand before Azam was held by Hasan Ali off Shakib-ul-Hasan. Later Ravi Bopara(30) and Shoaib Malik – who scored 51 off 27 and was awarded Man of the Match for his effort – pushed Karachi’s total to a substantial score.
