KP pulls out of IPL 2017

Kevin Pietersen has decided to not feature in the 2017 season of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), citing a busy winter and travel fatigue as a reason for not participating in the player auction scheduled for later this month.

The South African born batsman had a difficult 2016 IPL, scoring 73 runs in four matches for Rising Pune Supergiants before missing the remainder of the tournament due to a calf injury. He was later released by the franchise in December last year.

The IPL 2107 is scheduled to start from the first week of April and end in the third week of May.

However, Pietersen is set to play for Quetta Gladiators in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) starting from February 9.

Pietersen has been an explosive T20 gun-for-hire for nearly all the shorter format leagues around the world since his international career was cut short following the Ashes 2013-14 whitewash. He spent his winter playing the domestic T20 tournament in South Africa – 198 runs in five innings for Dolphins – and the Big Bash league in Australia, where he scored 268 runs in eight outings to the middle.
