A 57-ball 80* from Eoin Morgan powered Peshawar Zalmi to a seven-wicket win over the off-color Karachi Kings in the third match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017. Peshawar Zalmi have now picked up their first points of the PSL, after having lost their opening game against Islamabad United yesterday.
Chasing 119 to win, Zalmi got off to a disastrous start after Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal – who scored 88 in the last match – got out without troubling the scorers — courtesy some swing assistance Amir and Sohail had found early in the chase. But Peshawar didn’t panic as Eoin Morgan, along with David Malan, put up a 46-run stand before Malan was accounted by Imad Wasim. Morgan continued with his elegant, risk-free strokeplay to comfortably see his side home with more than an over to spare.
Quick Single: Sharjeel, Latif provisionally suspended by PCB
Morgan hit 8 fours and 3 sixes in his 80 with a strike rate of just a shade over 140.
As was the case last season, Karachi Kings PSL campaign got off to a dismal start once again as their batting choked in the opening game: at one point, they were 12-4, but they somehow consolidated to put up 118 in their 20 overs courtesy late performances from Shoaib Malik(44), Ravi Bopara(33) and KA Pollard(27*).
