England opener Jason Roy’s crucial 51-ball 60* and 4 wickets from Kiwi star Grant Elliott helped Lahore Qalandars secure the first win of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Dubai Stadium.
Islamabad skipper Misbah-ul-Haq’s blazing knock of 61 from just 36 balls, which included 5 sixes and 3 fours, ended in a losing cause as Qalandars comfortably hunted down their target of 159 in just 18.2 overs with 6 wickets remaining. Other top contributions from United were Sam Billings(37) and Dwayne Smith (31).
Chasing 159 to win, Roy and MacCullum came out all guns blazing. But MacCullum’s brief cameo (25 off 10 balls) came to an end when he was safely held by Sam Billings off Ruman Raees bowling. Fakhar Zaman failed to go beyond 5, but it didn’t deter Roy from forming a key 71-run with Umar Akmal (35 off 26) to see victory within a close distance.
Later, Sunil Narine chipped in with his vital 26 off 12 balls to finally see Lahore surpass Islamabad United’s total.
