Dwayne Smith’s explosive 59-ball 72 just managed to get Islamabad United over the line, as they beat Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets to secure a last-ball win at Sharjah.
Chasing a modest 139 for victory, Islamabad made it tough for themselves as they lost early wickets and kept a sluggish pace. Rafatullah Mohmand(11), Brad Haddin(2) and Sam Billings(11) failed to provide any momentum to the run chase. However, it was Smith’s 72 and Watson’s contribution of 30 that helped United manage a win just in time.
After having been asked to bat first, Peshawar were restricted to a below-par 138 courtesy of some fine bowling effort from United bowlers. Mohammad Sami was the pick of the bowlers with 3-26. Rumman Raees 2-19 and Shadab Khan 2-26 were also vital in limiting Zalmi to a chasable total.
